FarmBotika is an agritech innovation built on the intersection of AI and IoT to support smallholder farmers. The platform aims to deliver actionable insights on critical farming parameters—such as weather conditions, soil health, and pest threats—using lightweight communication channels like SMS and USSD. This ensures that even farmers with basic feature phones can access real-time recommendations, making FarmBotika accessible and inclusive. The project is being developed in collaboration with JHUB Africa and features a diverse team: frontend engineers, an ML expert, IoT specialists, and backend developers collaborating to build the user-facing interface and a distributed backend microservices architecture.
Functionally, FarmBotika acts as a precision‑agriculture assistant that integrates sensor networks with machine learning models. Its backend microservices ingest IoT data—likely from soil sensors and local weather inputs—and apply AI analysis to generate tailored farming guidance. This analysis is then relayed directly to farmers via SMS/USSD, offering recommendations ranging from irrigation management to pest mitigation. The UI components being built by frontend developers support both the data dashboard and farmer-facing interaction; meanwhile, the modular backend services ensure scalability and reliability .
